Detroit Model Railroad Club - Detroit Union Railroad

Layout Description

The club was established in 1935 and is currently located in the old theater in historic downtown Holly, Michigan. The club’s O scale layout is over 4000 square feet and features over 6000 feet of hand-laid track. It is controlled by an NCE DCC system with over a dozen radio throttles and is starting to use LCC for detection and signaling. Train size varies from a single RDC car to 30-car coal drags, with most locomotives featuring lights and sound.

50 years of building thousands of feet of handlaid track support operations of all kinds, passenger and freight, steam and diesel, long and short trains, centered around a 10-track classification yard, and using car cards and switchlists. Featured in Model Railroader several times.
