Stone Lake Line Railroad

Layout Description

A proto freelanced layout set in northern Wisconsin in the mid to late 1960's. Modeling the C&NW line from Altoona, Wisconsin north through Spooner to Superior, Wisconsin. The Stone Lake Line has trackage rights and the contract for local switching on this portion of the CNW. The Stone Lake Line's own trackage is from Spooner east through Stone Lake and on to Park Falls, Wisconsin. This line extends further east all the way to Iron Mountain Michigan and is modeled in staging. A private lumber railroad is also modeled and interchanges with the Stone Lake main line in Kennedy, Wisconsin. There is interchange traffic with the Soo Line, the C&NW and the Milwaukee Road as well as several other roads in the staging yards of Superior, Minneapolis and Iron Mountain.

A combination of around the walls, peninsula and double deck bench work in 5 different rooms holds about 300' of main and branch line.

NCE DCC tethered cabs, custom designed single use waybills in plastic car card sleeves, track warrant (not time period prototypical) train control, all turnouts manually controlled, fast clock operation with a separate dispatchers office. Communication is via FRS radios (provided).
