Des Moines Valley Railroad

Layout Description

HO scale railroad layout depicting what could have happened to the Altoona to Eddyville segment of the old ex-K&D line in Iowa if it had survived the Rock Island bankruptcy in 1980. Layout is approximately 42'x13' "L" shape with a small fiddle staging yard (representing areas east and west), and branches to Reasnor and Oskaloosa. The four towns modeled include Monroe, Otley, Pella, and Leighton/Evans Jct. Control is by NCE radio wireless throttles, a ProtoThrottle, and a WiFi throttle connection for smart phone control via JMRI. Freight car forwarding is by JMRI Ops switchlists. Mainline switches are remotely controlled by throttle or local pushbuttons and spurs and yard tracks are manual ground throws. Mainline run is a little over 100' and the height is set at 45".
