New York, New Haven & Hartford RR Hartford Division

Layout Description

Welcome to the HO scale version of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Company’s Hartford Division in the 1948 to 1953 time period. This is set in the steam to diesel transition era. The modeled portion of the railroad consists of two lines located in central Connecticut in what’s known as the Connecticut Valley.
The layout is an HO scale around the walls 25×35 foot double decked, walk in style layout with a double track helix on the middle wall area connecting both levels. The top level is the single track Valley Branch and the lower level is the double track Hartford Division main line. The layout is operated as a point to point railroad with off line staging. The layout is powered by a North Coast Engineering Power Pro DCC system with radio. The railroad is operated using Time Table & Train Order (TT&TO) with car cards and two/four sided way bills. There are both freight and passenger time tables for scheduled trains. Most trains are scheduled. Local Turns are run as extras and have specific departure times. Time is kept using a 5 to 1 fast clock condensing a 24 hour day into 5 hours. Communication is currently FRS radio at OS stations with a phone system to be installed in the future. FUN is expected by all who operate my railroad and is printed in the rule book. So come on out and have some fun operating the New Haven Railroad.
